The touch UI is good but not superb cannot be compared with iphone cause this is not multi touch, while in a call, when the phone is near ear the display automatically turns off, similar to iphone, I think this feature as a atta copy(stupid copy, copy that is not necessary) from iphone cause this is not necessary for 5800.. iphone automatically switches off the display when you place your phone near ear to prevent accidental input which can easily occur in multi-touch but 5800 is no multi-touch device, so it is not necessary.. Don't tell me 5800 will save power by switching off the display, anyway all phones will decrease the brightness in 10 sec and switch off display depending upon power setting.
Music player is very good the speaker is loud and clear.. XpressMusic player is a + for 5800. For watching movies with the stand attachment the phone is very good, it has a video center which collects all the media and makes it easy to watch the video clips. I happened to browse the Internet both via GPRS and wifi, the browser is very much improved from the previous versions finally nokia allows us to open new browser window which I am happy to use, In my N95(my old phone) I was using psiloc connect to enable the browser to select between wifi and GPRS, which is a third party solution so I am not happy with that, But nokia solves that problem in 5800 with destinations It is more like access point groups than a single access point solution like in the case of psiloc connect.. you can place any no. Of access points in groups and specify the priority you can also create new access point group. You can select any access point group for the applications that supports it.. So when the application tries to connect to Internet it will do so via the available access point with highest priority. The battery is very good(it may seem like that to me because my previous phone was N95-1). The accelerometer sensor is too sensitive.. I am fed up with it so I turned it off.. also the screen won't rotate in standby (nokia could explain this, cause if it rotates the standby screen then the phone should rotate our wallpapers so it should stretch it which may look ugly...)

Nokia has placed the connection manager inside settings->connectivity , it is not a standalone application as it is in the case of N95.

The thing that bugged me much is WLAN scanning.. In my N95 I will select 'WLAN scanning off' in standby screen and then start web browsing, then it will prompt for passkey of the wifi network so after entering this it will be added as a access point which will be used by psiloc connect.. but in 5800 I have to go to settings and then select connectivity to start WLAN scanning or I should click on the right corner of the standby screen and select packet data icon to enter connectivity,... Next I have to select Wireless LAN to start wlan scanning which will list the available wifi networks.. when I select a wifi network to start web browsing the browser opens and connects with wifi that is not in range.. I think this as a bug in 5800 which should be rectified in firmware updates. The phone comes with two pre-installed games RT-GR(Raging Thunder - Global Racing) and bounce touch RT-GR supports accelerometer so you can race by tilting the phone... or by moving your hand over the screen.
Thanks Chenthil.

"but 5800 is no multi-touch device, so [sensor-driven screen shutoff] is not necessary" ... Do you have any idea what "multi touch" means?
2:08 PM
Yes mr Anonymous, I know what it means and yeah I agree that its touch UI cannot be compared to Apple's iPhone. Seems you pretty angry with Nokia. Anyway, when it comes to making and selling mobile phones they kick everybody's ass...no hard feelings though...
3:36 AM
Hehe I guess I didn't make myself clear. I'm an avid Nokia fan when it comes to phones. I own a 6131 and 5800.
What I meant was, just because it's not multitouch doesn't mean the 5800 doesn't need a proximity sensor. You could still accidentally touch a button with your cheek while talking, hence the proximity sensor. In addition, the sensor is useful in that you can put the phone face-down on a table to disable ring & alarms (while sleeping, in a quick meeting, ...).
Sorry for my tone in my previous post ... it was late and I was tired. :)

Cool, thanks for your comments. Its launched at a very competitive price in india..and i think it will sell welll...

hi i have bought a new nokia 5800.the problem i have is my phone automatically gets switched off..can any one help me in this
9:27 AM
@Rahul - This problem seems to be very peculiar, never came across something like this from a Nokia 5800 user. However, I would advice, you show the device to the nearest Nokia Care Center, they will get it up and running for you...
1:50 PM
Hi Even i have the same problem as Rahul has...Is there any patch available for this?
2:20 PM
@Anonymous - I am not sure if i can be able to help, but yeah i advice you to visit your Nokia Priority dealer or Nokia Care Center. I will try my best to put this across and find a solution

@Rahul and Anonymous - Hope this helps - http://www.nampblog.com/2009/01/fix-your-nokia-5800-that-gets-switched.html

i was wondering. Is it true that the nokia 5800 has a slow response time?Like after you touch an icon and it takes quite some time (maybe 4~7 seconds) for it to start up or take action.
7:36 AM
@Ian - Yeah the response time is bit slow, but not 4 to 7 seconds. If your Tube is heavily loaded with multimedia then it might be slow, same happens with iPhone/iPod Touch also. If you have lot of data, it is slow.
10:38 AM
i see.Thx for the info.I was afraid that it will end up like some of my friends nokia N series which is using symbian 60 OS,slow response time.Hopefully the 5800 wont be like them =)
11:41 AM
@Ian - Not a problem. However, if you continue to face the same problem then best way isto go to nearest NPD or Nokia Care Center and show them your device unless you know how to repair it on your own ;-)

I have the NOkia 5800. Like the phone, but the camera sucks, especially if you are indoors, even during the day. Grainy images, and the flash is a disaster. I got better pics without the flash in many places.

10:10 AM
Yeah the camera sucks big time..anyways Nokia has never been exceptional with mobile phone cameras amn. Lets hope their new 8 mega pixel monster the N86 is as good as their flagship imaging phone the N82
2:35 PM
i have a suggestion for all 5800 users, don't use the slide wallpaper from 5800, it makes ur 5800 slow, u can see the difference by activating ur slide wallpaper and pick up 4-5 wallpapers, even if u use phone memory's wallpapers, it will still be slow. So.. use default wallpaper or single wallpaper. that's all
4:55 PM
thanks for the tip Wendy!!!
11:28 AM
is 5800 a good phone to buy? is it worth it?
4:26 PM
The intial reports are satisfactory, but yeah you wont totally regret buying it as every phone has its pros and cons...the enhanced versions will be better
12:41 PM
First my nokia 5800 got locked on upgrading the firmware. A swap phone was supplied by company in 20 days . This phone is unable to upgrade to newer firmware version. The music content are locked. Also, the phone does not plugs into system and does not gets connected to PC Suite. Other than that the phone headphone adaptar is mulfunctioning in a months time. Phone and adaptar are now at Nokia care for replacemnet.i.e. 2 times in 2 mts. time.
8:33 PM
oops..it seems that Nokia gave you some ind of faulty peice man..otherwise so many problems in such short period were unheard for the Nokia 5800...hope they fix it this time..otherwise just emphasize on getting a spare handset...Best of Luck

7:53 AM
Hi Akansha,
I have been using the phone since last one week now and i did find it annoying at times. Especially the UI freezes, but thats happnes with most of the phones. Exceptions like the iPhone UI are there. If you start comparing the touch UI of 5800 with that of the iPHone then obviously you will never like it. Start afresh, apart from the UI the 5800 has hell lot of features and functions at your tips, which currently miss in the iPhone.
4:44 PM
If the only thing you do not like is UI you can purchase My Phone for $12 to make UI like iPhone. They hvae a demo version without all the features to try for free.
7:25 PM
what is multi touch? pls explain with details. i have heard that 5800 body is like plastic body.. i mean not so strengthy... is it true?
8:54 PM
The kind of experience you get on iPHone in multi touch. Even if you touch the screen with two fingers simultaneously, it will work. You can zoom in and zoom out on pictures. This is not there in 5800.
8:11 AM
So what if this phone doesn't have multi touch screen....!!!
iphone price is not equal to it specification.
Smart people doesnt buy iphone....!!!
